The Logistics Industry has a number of operational and business pathways; every business requires financial management as well as operational delivery, people support (human resources) and management skills. Over 2.3m people work in the sector and there are requirements for new skills and new roles every year.

The government believes that over 700,000 new entrants (people joining the industry for the first time) will be required by 2020; these people will almost certainly need greater IT literacy; higher level of numeracy (Maths at GCSE ‘C’ or equivalent) and strong communication skills.

Each role on the career stairway has an national occupational standard that allows members to understand the skills and competencies required to take the next step in their career, as well as build a strong foundation for longer term career enhancement.
